Word of Mouth is Most Trusted, says Nielsen Research

Nielsen Research’s Global Trust in Advertising Survey reveals that word of mouth is the most trusted form of advertising:

92% of consumers say they trust the recommendations of their friends when making purchase decisions, which is a much higher rating than other forms of advertising. The report surveyed over 28,000 respondents in 56 countries.

All other forms of advertising, such as online banner ads, ads in newspapers, or ads on radio, all earned a rating below 50%. The lowest rating was SMS ads on mobile phones, at only 29%.
